1010: Right Place, Right Time

The Hour

The party was in full swing. Dancing shook the property. Singing rode the waves. Wine flowed until the vats were dry.

Only a dry vat signaled more than poor planning. It was a sign of a poor provider. Could the groom be trusted to provide for his bride in the future if he didn't have enough resources for the reception?

The wedding party began to panic. Cheeks flushed with shame, they searched for a solution when they found it among the crowd.

Mary knew what to do. For thirty years, she held on to a night. A night when angels sang. A night when shepherds came to the new family to share the heavenly encounter. “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."

This moment of shame came to the celebration, and all she treasured and all she pondered came to mind.

Mary looked for her child among the crowd. She spots him and says, “They have no more wine.”

“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

Mary’s words to the servants hung in the air with quiet authority: “Do whatever he tells you.” Her voice left no room for hesitation, only faith.

The servants looked to Jesus, their gaze drifting toward six great stone jars. Heavy and unremarkable, they stood nearby, each one etched with the purpose of ceremonial washing, vessels meant to hold not wine, but water for purification.

Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons, solid in purpose yet empty now.

Jesus looked at the servants and gave a simple command: “Fill the jars with water.”

Without question, they obeyed, filling each jar until water licked the brim. They paused, awaiting the next word.

It came with calm assurance. “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” A quiet ripple of wonder stirred in their hearts, yet they said nothing as they carried the ladle toward the banquet master, offering him a taste.

The liquid touched his tongue, and his brows lifted in surprise. This was not just wine—it was choice wine, the finest yet.

Calling the bridegroom aside, he marveled, “Everyone serves the best wine first, and when the guests have had their fill, the cheaper wine follows. But you…you have saved the best for now.”

In that moment, the party continued unaware. The guests laughed, drank, and celebrated, their glasses filled with the finest, unaware of the quiet miracle in their midst. A miracle that took place at an unexpected hour. “My hour has not yet come.”
